In a digital world where old laptops are being replaced faster than ever before, what is the best way to dispose of the older technology?
Difficult to Discard
Today's laptops are thinner, lighter, and much faster than their predecessors upon introduction. When a laptop's speed has become outmoded, or its storage filled, or its ports outdated, it is difficult to find a suitable way in which to discard it.
Repurpose or Recycle
Depending on the condition and age of the laptop, there are two ways of approach to laptop disposal. The first is to repurpose the laptop, by utilising an open-source operating system, like Linux, or a lightweight computing OS like ChromeOS. One could also take advantage of the multitude online tools available to increase and or improve the performance of the laptop.
The second way to dispose of the laptop is to drop it off at an electronic recycling center . These centers provide methods to responsibly and safely deal with the laptop, either by reutilising parts or fully recycling the components, so that each electron need not go to waste.
Conclusion
Our digital devices are commodities that are replacing themselves at an ever faster rate. Unfortunately, this means disposing of more tech than ever before. When dealing with laptop disposal, it is best to either repurpose, or to responsibly recycle.
